Joseph McAlhany has a Ph.D. in Classics from Columbia University, and is currently Associate Professor and Chair of Classics at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He is also a member of the Program in Great Ideas, a “great books” program for which he served as Director, and helped to develop Carthage’s required first-year core curriculum program. He published, with Jay Rubenstein, a translation of Guibert of Nogent’s Monodies and On the Relics of the Saints (Penguin 2011), and is a contributor to the Oxford Encyclopedia of Ancient Greece & Rome. He was a participant in the 2013 NEH Summer Institute “The Centrality of Translation to the Humanities: New Interdisciplinary Scholarship,” and in addition to translation work for The Euler Archive and The Hildemar Translation Project, he has a forthcoming 2-volume edition and translation of the collected fragments of Marcus Terentius Varro as part of the Loeb Classical Library (Harvard University Press).
