UCHI Grants for Folger Research

The Early Modern Studies Working Group, with the generous support of the UCHI, currently funds travel awards to visit the Folger Shakespeare Library. These awards take two forms: 1) Travel awards to fund research trips, awarded to one graduate student and one faculty member 2) “Top-up” awards to allow graduate students and faculty who are already attending Folger scholarly programming to stay a few extra days for research.

Travel Awards: Graduate student travel awards can be up to $750 and faculty travel awards can be up to $500. To apply for a travel award fill out the application form found here. This application will include a research plan and proposed budget for the trip. Review of applications will begin on December 1st and continue on a rolling basis until March 1st. Please e-mail earlymod@uconn.edu with any questions.

Top-up Awards: When graduate students or faculty participate in Folger scholarly programming, they can apply to for this award. The award will be smaller than the travel awards and is meant to supplement travel expenses that have already been funded by a grant-in-aid from the Folger. The award is intended to allow participants in Folger programming to stay in Washington for a few extra days to conduct research. To apply, please send a proposed budget, schedule, the name of the program you are attending, and a research plan to earlymod@uconn.edu. Applications for this award are accepted at any time during the academic year, though funding is limited.

All awardees will be expected to write a report and blog post based on their experiences at the Folger.
